2024 Reunion Update

The attendees of the 50th reunion would like to thank Phil Smith being the local coordinator for his effort in organising the reunion especially after it was moved from Jan. to December because of COVID.

At our 50th (Dec2022) reunion, it was agreed our next reunion would be in Darwin around July 2024. 

Vern Elms has taken on the role of local coordinator for the Jul24 Darwin Reunion.   Vern has visited Darwin and is compiling a week of scheduled events for us from Fri19Jul24 to Fri 26Jul24.

Friday 19/7/24

PM1430 Meet & Greet - HMAS Coonawarra (Packard St, Larrakeyah, NT) base tour then Wardroom Sundowners drinks with Guest Speaker Informal Dinner (CAPT Mitchell Livingstone CO Coonawarra and NOCNA)

A service will be conducted by the Navy Chaplain for all our fallen mates of our intake who are no longer with us.

then optional visit to Darwin Museum (free and has a Cafe) - near Ski Club, or the following

1600Mindil Beach Markets - VIP Sunset Lounge @ $16 p/p guarantees a seat and drinks to buy  
Additional info; Mindle Beach Markets - if we get the VIP lounge then you know you will have seats. Its not perfect but better than wandering around looking to sit down as it is busy.
Markets kick off about 4pm so anytime from then on. It gets packed and the VIP lounge which is right in the middle of the markets gives us seats. (Use Chrome to view website). 3 VIP packages are available.

Additional info; Register at the Ticket Office next to the main gate, requires one of; Australian or International Passport, Australian or International Drivers' License, Australian Medicare Card, Australian Seniors Card, Australian Proof of Identification Cards, or Australian Birth or Citizenship Certificate. Maximum 20 visitors can be accommodated on each tour.

1730 Sunset Harbour Cruise (possibly an old Broome restored pearl lugger) - Departure from Stokes Hill Wharf, then Dinner on wharf on completion of cruise.

• 2 hours, BYO drinks/food. Vessel has esky / ice /glasses onboard. 
Suggest nibblies then dinner on Stokes Hill Wharf on completion. Cost of cruise approx. $75 p/p. Vessel is an award winning restored old Broome Pearl Lugger.

• Manpower – how will we man the next generation platforms
• Nuclear Submarine timeframe – why conventional weapons
• Would a Coast Guard be better served in providing “Sovereign Borders” 
• 2 ocean Navy – how is the Navy coping with significant issues with fleet oilers
• What is the most challenging aspect of being Commander Northern Command.

Friday 26/7/24 – Darwin Public Holiday – Show Day
AM Free time. Options include Darwin Show / Trip down the track, etc
